This folding fan is crafted from buried golden nanmu「金糸楠埋木」,
a rare wood formed when natural nanmu logs lay submerged beneath riverbeds or soil for centuries.
Over time, minerals and pressure transform the fibers —
the golden threads within the wood darken, becoming dense, lustrous, and resonant with history.
The result is a material that bridges wood and stone,
its surface deep as ink, yet shimmering faintly with golden light beneath.
Each fan is carved by hand from a single piece of this ancient wood.
The fan length (15–21 cm) refers to its full folded size,
with shorter fans feeling elegant and airy, and longer ones calm and stately.
Two natural grain patterns appear:
Vertical Grain – straight lines resembling bamboo, steady and refined.
Wave Grain – gentle ripples like light moving across water.
These patterns are not carved but born from the wood’s slow healing and mineralization,
a memory of centuries etched within its grain.
When light passes across the surface,
subtle golden threads emerge like lightning beneath still water.
Each piece is unique — no repetition of grain, hue, or scent.
The wood’s fragrance is faint and clean,
its touch warm with a quiet resistance that grows smoother with time,
developing a natural patina through years of handling.
Not made by human design, but shaped by time.
A breath of wind, sealed in the body of ancient wood.
