One-of-a-kind, with original tomobako and silk cloth

Created by the late Bizen artist Yoshimoto Sōhō (好本宗峯) in the late 20th century, this rare tokkuri exemplifies the quiet refinement of the Mitsumi firing tradition.

Standing 13 cm tall with a 3.5 cm mouth and 5 cm base, its full-bodied form recalls the classic sake bottle silhouette, yet its presence transcends function.

The surface is distinguished by a remarkable “Peony-Mochi” kiln variation (牡丹餅窯変) — a bloom-like patch of natural color caused by heavy wood ash accumulation during firing.
Layers of straw ash have settled thickly, giving the piece a subdued luster and depth unattainable through glaze.

Balanced and generous in proportion, it can hold sake or a pale flower with equal grace. Its stillness evokes the wabi-sabi aesthetic: impermanence revealed through fire and time.

This is a one-of-a-kind vintage piece, uncirculated and in pristine condition, accompanied by its original tomobako (signed wooden box) and silk wrapping cloth — a collector’s treasure from the final decades of the 20th century.
