What is Edo kiriko (AKA Kendo Cut Glass)?
Edo kiriko(江戸切子は) is a technique to cut patterns on glass. It is a delicate stained glass dish with pure color.
It originated in Japan. During the Edo period, artisans would draw patterns and lines on glass cups, and then use a grinding wheel blade to manually cut various exquisite patterns along the marked lines while rotating at high speed. In Japan, the crystal glass products made using this technique are usually collectively referred to as "Kendo Cut Glass".
Over the past 50 years, it has been successively contracted for production in Japan and Europe. Through decades of accumulation, we have gradually mastered the cutting skills. Let our exquisite cups, filled with art and soul, adorn your elegant life. You truly deserve it!
-It is said that edo kiriko was developed in 1834 by kyubei kagaya, a glass shop owner, in odenma-cho, edo (now Tokyo).
