Q&A
How do you maintain consistency in quality across your handmade products?
In the shibori process, the skilled artisans carefully secure and clamp the fabric before immersing it in the dye vat, allowing nature to influence the final pattern. While this natural process introduces an element of unpredictability that gives each piece its unique charm, our artisans—with years of experience and a keen intuitive touch—adhere to strict quality standards. Every product undergoes rigorous quality checks throughout each production stage, ensuring that despite the organic variability, the exceptional quality and consistency of our handmade bags remain uncompromised.
What care instructions do you recommend to preserve the beauty of these textiles?
Our shibori pieces are dyed with traditional natural plant-based dyes, so their colorfastness may not match that of modern dyes. To keep your bag looking its best, we recommend the following care instructions:
Washing: Use cold water with a gentle, neutral detergent. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that might damage the dye.
Separation: Wash your item separately from light-colored garments to prevent any potential dye transfer.
Drying: After washing, air dry your bag in a cool, shaded area. Refrain from using a dryer or exposing the bag to direct sunlight.
Natural Fading: Note that each wash may lead to some fading. However, this natural evolution enhances the depth and texture of the colors, adding to the unique charm of the shibori process.
By following these steps, you'll help preserve the vibrant, natural beauty of your textile while allowing it to develop a rich, lived-in character over time.
Are the dyes used in your Shibori techniques natural and eco-friendly?
Yes, our dyes are completely natural and eco-friendly. We primarily use a natural blue dye derived from Trobilanthes cusia and P. tinctoria , sourced from the renowned Buddhist site of Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang Province, China. Using a traditional dry fermentation process of dried plant materials, we produce a charcoal-like indigo dye that imparts an elegantly timeless hue.
Additionally, our textiles are meticulously crafted from the finest natural cotton and hemp. We select these fibers not only for their eco-friendly qualities but also for their superior durability, breathability, and tactile richness. Our natural cotton is celebrated for its softness and comfort, while hemp brings remarkable strength and resilience. The blend of these materials results in a fabric that is as luxurious as it is long-lasting. Each piece is produced using time-honored techniques and environmentally conscious practices, ensuring that every bag is a testament to both traditional craftsmanship and modern sustainability.
How long does it typically take to create one of your handcrafted bags?
Our workshop relies entirely on handcrafted techniques. From the hand-dyeing and drying of our fabrics to the final assembly of each bag, the typical production time is about one week. For custom orders that incorporate rare materials or special design requests, production can extend from one week up to one month. Once your order is placed, we will contact you via email to discuss and finalize the production schedule.
How can I track my order status after placing an order?
Once your package is shipped, we will provide you with the tracking number so you can monitor its delivery status.
Why do we recommend signing up for membership via email?
Signing up for our membership via email gives you access to exclusive discounts, complimentary handmade gifts with every purchase, and first-hand notifications when new products are launched.
